Welcome to Meteopolis!

Discover how a large city like Rotterdam can deal with the consequences of climate change.

Meteopolis is a research and exhibition as part of the 9th edition of IABR – DOWN TO EARTH. The exhibition cannot yet be visited live. But you can admire it for free via the virtual tour.

Climate change presents the world with major new challenges. Climate trends and their effects aren’t the main point of discussion here. Instead, we’re focusing on how to act on these trends. Four design firms were commissioned to shape their dream for the city of Rotterdam in 2060, each with a different combination of uncertain social and economic factors as framework.

Scroll through the dreams the designers made for you with an open mind and wonder: what will my Rotterdam look like in 2060?

IABR–DOWN TO EARTH

Meteopolis is part of the 9th edition of the IABR (International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam). In the times of the pandemic, IABR is programming instead of one major main exhibition a series of exhibitions and activities from September 2020 to June 2021. Step by step, the IABR presents the results of its own design research and selected projects under the umbrella of DOWN TO EARTH.
